The Moment

How my dark night of the soul began (the colposcopy)

Hi Reader,

Sometimes life forces you to face your fears head-on, perhaps as a challenge to see whether you're willing to handle things differently than you have in the past.

That’s what it felt like when I had to get a biopsy in 2024.

Anything to do with the medical world has terrified me for as long as I can remember.

I avoided getting bloodwork for more than ten years. Even a pap smear could make me queasy and lightheaded.

So when I found out I needed to have a biopsy, I was a mess.

The layers of fear were deep: the fear of blood, being in pain, and receiving results that could change my life forever.

I felt as if I should be able to handle this calmly and with a positive mindset. I've been blogging about having a blissful mind for over a decade. But inside, I was splitting at the seams.

This is a story about facing my fears with clenched fists and how I couldn't relax even after it was all over.

*Note: This essay includes detailed descriptions of a medical procedure.

Thanks for reading,

P.S. It feels surreal to share such personal details on the internet, but writing about this has helped me process and release emotions around this experience.

What we reveal, we can heal.
